Hello
I'm Eliot. I originally went to music school but dropped out after moonlighting as a sysadmin at a small game studio during my senior year. After a few lucky breaks I joined facebook in 2016 as a Production Engineer where I spent nearly a decade working on infrastructure for FB, IG and MSL.
During my time at facebook, I wrote a lot (the internal "facebook" is a gold mine of technical content). Mostly I wrote about the astounding number of ways things can break, and sometimes how I fixed them. Since leaving, I realized I was missing this outlet so decided to put up a site to shout into the void.
Why SlowAF?
I used to keep two lists of links to code I found on opposite sides of the efficiency spectrum.
slowaf.md
fastaf.md
Since facebook was the "move fast and break things" company, slowaf.md got pretty long and was the inspiration for many of my posts.
